Questions parents and managers ask
For parents
How do I get my kid's team on my phone?
Pick the team above, confirm it's the right one, enter your mobile number and the code we text you. The schedule is on your phone right away. RSVPs, the roster and team chat open once the team's admin approves you — usually the same day.
Why do I need to be approved?
The roster and chat are for the team's own families, so a manager or coach taps approve before you're in. Until then you still see every game and practice, and your request is waiting for them when they open the app.
Nobody runs our team on PuckFinder yet. Now what?
You can still follow the schedule today. Your request sits with the team until a manager or coach claims it — send them the team page link, it takes them a minute. If that's you, tap I run this team on the team page.
Where does the schedule come from, and is it right?
Straight from the Nepean Raiders' public team calendar on the NMHA site — the same one behind the website. We check it every hour, so league changes land within the hour, and you get one notification per batch of changes instead of a ping per edit.
What does it cost?
Nothing. PuckFinder is free for every family and every team, with no ads. Finding drop-ins and skills sessions across Ottawa is free too.
I have two kids on two teams.
One account, both players. Join each team the same way; both schedules land on one Schedule screen and each team has its own chat.
Can both parents be on the team?
Yes — each parent joins with their own mobile number and picks the same player. The admin approves both, and you each get the notifications.
Do I have to install the app?
The website shows the schedule, but approvals, schedule changes and team chat arrive as notifications, and the browser can't do that. The app is free on iPhone and Android; sign in with the same number.
What about my kid's information?
The public roster is just an initial, surname and birth year — the same as the NMHA site. Full names live inside the team only. Medical details are opt-in, encrypted, and visible only to the team's trainer. How we handle your data.
My team isn't listed.
The 22 competitive teams are loaded now; house league teams arrive as their schedules post on the NMHA site. Clear the birth year above to see every team, or request an invite and we'll tell you when yours is up.

How do I onboard my team?
Open your team's page and tap I run this team. We approve claims by hand during invite-only, usually within the day. Then you approve the families already waiting, and drop the team's invite link in your group chat. The roster and schedule are already loaded — there's nothing to type in.
How do I keep the website (SportsHeadz / NMHA) in sync with PuckFinder?
You don't have to do anything. Your team is linked to the NMHA team calendar and we check it every hour, so keep posting ice on the league site exactly as you do now and it flows into PuckFinder. Anything you add or edit in PuckFinder sticks — we never overwrite your changes — and if the league later moves the same event, the app asks you which one wins.
Can I add things the league site doesn't have?
Yes. Team dinners, dryland, optional skates, a parents' meeting — add them in the app and they sit alongside the league events with RSVPs and reminders.
We already use TeamSnap.
Connect it under the team's Settings and the schedule and RSVPs stay in step. Or skip it: the NMHA calendar link gives you the same schedule with nothing else to maintain.
The roster has no jersey numbers or full names.
The NMHA site doesn't publish them. Parents fill in their player's name as they join, and you can set numbers and positions in the roster in a few taps.
Do I have to approve every parent one by one?
There's an Approve all button. A parent whose phone number or email is already on your roster contacts is admitted instantly, without a tap from you.
Some parents won't download anything.
They can still follow the schedule on the website, and schedule-change digests go out by email as well as by push, so nobody misses a moved practice.
How do coaches and other staff get in?
The NMHA staff list is loaded with the team. When a coach or manager on it signs in, the app asks "Are you Pat Smith, coach of U11A?" and lets them claim the team from there.
